The Land of Time | Session 11

5/3/2026 – The Voices on Razor Reef
Lila Moss clung desperately to the razor sharp stones of Razor Reef. Her body burned from countless cuts and bruises. The sea had finally calmed, but something far more dangerous had not. The obsidian dagger at her side pulsed with an unnatural warmth. It felt almost alive. Almost aware.
Then she heard them.
Voices drifted across the reef on the wind. Low chanting mingled with the scrape of boots on stone and the faint clink of metal and bone. Lila pressed herself deeper into a narrow crevice, heart hammering against her ribs. Through a small gap in the rocks she watched them. Figures in weathered salt stained robes moved between the tide pools like silent worker ants. Some carried small bundles wrapped in dark cloth. Others dragged heavy sacks that left wet dark trails across the stone.
This was no camp of shipwreck survivors.
One man, taller than the rest, spoke with quiet but absolute authority.
The new brother was promised. He should have arrived by now. The old vessel was compromised. We had to send the message.
Another answered, his voice cold and flat.
Then the message was received. Elias is already dead. The circle remains pure.
Lila’s breath caught in her throat.
What does Lila do next?
Roll 1d6
She stays perfectly still and hidden, hoping they pass by without noticing her.
She tries to slip away quietly along the rocks, back toward the open sea.
She grips the obsidian dagger tighter and prepares to fight if discovered.
She calls out, pretending to be a lost traveler, hoping to learn more.
She waits and watches, trying to understand what this circle actually is.
Something unexpected happens.
The roll is a 6.
Lila stayed hidden, barely breathing, as the cultists moved across the reef like living shadows. The words “Elias is already dead” echoed in her mind. She did not know who Elias was, but the cold certainty in the speaker’s voice made her blood run cold.
Then something unexpected happened.
A low, guttural growl rolled across the rocks. It was not from the cultists. It came from the sea itself. The water churned violently near the edge of the reef. One of the robed figures let out a terrified cry as something massive surged upward from the black depths.
The sea serpent. The same monstrous beast that had destroyed Captain Salt’s boat. It broke the surface with a deafening roar. Its scales gleamed wet and black beneath the moonlight. Red veins pulsed along its body like living fire, mirroring the cursed dagger at Lila’s side.
Chaos erupted.
The cultists screamed and scattered in every direction. Some tried to form a desperate defensive circle with makeshift weapons. The serpent thrashed wildly, smashing into the rocks and sending walls of seawater crashing over everything. In the panic, one of the cultists stumbled directly toward Lila’s hiding place.
Their eyes met.
For one frozen moment, the young cultist with wild eyes and salt crusted robes stared straight at her. His mouth opened to shout.
What does Lila do?
Roll 1d6
She lunges with the obsidian dagger before he can scream.
She tries to slip deeper into the rocks and hide.
She grabs him and pulls him down, covering his mouth.
She whispers desperately, “I’m not one of them. Help me.”
She stays perfectly still, hoping he thinks he imagined her.
Something else unexpected happens.
We rolled another 6.
Lila’s heart hammered as the cultist prepared to raise the alarm.
But then the sea exploded once more.
The massive serpent thrashed with terrifying power. A colossal wave slammed into the reef, knocking the cultist off his feet and sending him tumbling away from her hiding spot. The creature’s red veined body flashed in the moonlight as it roared, clearly drawn by the blood and chaos in the water.
The cultists panicked and fled in every direction. In the madness, no one seemed to notice the small, bloodied girl pressed against the stones.
Lila saw her chance.
She moved.
What happens next?
Roll 1d6
Lila uses the chaos to slip away quietly toward the open sea.
She stays hidden and watches to see what the serpent does.
She grips the obsidian dagger and feels it grow warmer, almost like it is calling to the serpent.
One of the cultists spots her again while fleeing and tries to grab her.
She finds a strange relic dropped by one of the fleeing cultists.
Something even more unexpected happens.
We rolled a 5.
In the middle of the madness, something caught Lila’s eye.
A small dark object had been dropped in the panic. A strange relic half buried in the wet sand and seaweed. It looked like a fist sized obsidian sphere wrapped in thin silver wire, with faint red veins running through it. It was almost identical to the cursed dagger at her side.
She snatched it up without thinking. The moment her fingers closed around it, the relic pulsed with the same unnatural warmth as the dagger. For a brief second the two objects seemed to sing to each other.
The sea serpent roared again, smashing its massive tail into the reef. The cultists were scattering in every direction now, their strange ceremony completely shattered.
Lila clutched both the dagger and the new relic tightly, her heart racing.
What does Lila do with the strange relic?
Roll 1d6
She tries to hide it in her satchel and slip away while the serpent distracts the cultists.
She holds both the dagger and the relic together to see what happens.
She throws the relic at the serpent, hoping it distracts or affects the creature.
She calls out to one of the fleeing cultists, pretending to be one of them.
She stays hidden and examines the relic more closely.
Something unexpected happens.
We rolled a 2.
In the heart of the chaos, Lila made a split second decision.
She brought the strange obsidian relic and the cursed dagger together in her hands.
The moment the two objects touched, a low powerful hum filled the air. Red light flared along the veins of both artifacts, growing brighter and brighter until it cast eerie crimson reflections across the wet rocks. The dagger grew almost burning hot in her grip. The relic began to vibrate with raw power.
Suddenly the massive sea serpent stopped its wild thrashing.
Its enormous head swung toward Lila’s hiding spot. For one terrifying heartbeat its glowing red eyes locked directly onto her. Then the creature let out a deep resonant sound, almost like a greeting, before turning and slamming its massive body into a cluster of fleeing cultists, sending them flying into the sea.
The relic and dagger were connected to the serpent somehow.
Lila’s mind raced. The cultists had been using these artifacts. The serpent had been drawn here. And now both objects in her hands were reacting as if they recognized her.
But the cultists were regrouping. Several of them had noticed the red glow coming from her crevice and were pointing and shouting.
What does Lila do?
Roll 1d6
She tries to hide the glowing artifacts and slip away while the serpent is distracted.
She keeps the dagger and relic together, hoping to control or influence the serpent further.
She throws one of the artifacts at the approaching cultists to create a diversion.
She stands up and calls out to the serpent, testing if it will truly listen to her.
She drops one of the artifacts, afraid of its growing power.
Something even more unexpected happens.
She rolls a 3.
Panic rising, Lila made a desperate choice.
She pulled her arm back and threw the strange obsidian relic with all her remaining strength toward the cluster of approaching cultists. The sphere sailed through the air, glowing brighter and brighter with crimson light.
The moment it struck the rocks near them, it exploded in a violent burst of red energy. Several cultists screamed and fell back, clutching their eyes. The blast sent shards of stone flying and created a thick cloud of dust and seawater spray.
The sea serpent roared again, drawn even more intensely by the flare of power. It smashed its massive body into the reef once more, buying Lila precious seconds.
She did not waste them.
Heart pounding, she scrambled out of the crevice and began moving as fast as her battered body would allow. She stayed low and used the chaos as cover. The cursed dagger still pulsed hot in her hand, almost as if guiding her.
Behind her, the cultists were shouting and regrouping. Some were already pointing in her direction.
She had their attention now.
What happens next?
Roll 1d6
Lila manages to slip away into the darkness of the reef and loses them for now.
One of the cultists spots her and gives chase.
The sea serpent suddenly turns and blocks the cultists’ path, protecting her.
The dagger grows unbearably hot and seems to want her to use it.
She finds an old half sunken shipwreck she can hide inside.
Something even stranger happens.
She rolls a 4.
Lila kept moving, her breath ragged and her legs burning as she scrambled over the sharp rocks. The cultists were shouting behind her. They had definitely seen her.
The cursed obsidian dagger suddenly grew unbearably hot in her grip. It vibrated violently, almost like it was angry. Or hungry. The red veins along the blade flared bright, and for a moment she felt a strange pull, as if the dagger wanted to be used. It wanted blood.
The sea serpent roared again in the distance, as if answering the dagger’s call.
Lila stumbled to a stop behind a large boulder, clutching the burning blade. The cultists were getting closer. She could hear their frantic footsteps.
The dagger pulsed hotter.
It felt like it was daring her to fight.
