Escape the Dark Sector | My Quick Solo Sci-Fi Card Game
Escape the Dark Sector is a fast, atmospheric solo (or co-op) card game where you play as a crew of prisoners trying to escape a dystopian space prison.
The artwork is what first caught my eye. It has this dark, gritty, cinematic style that immediately pulled me in. I bought it on a whim and I’m really glad I did.
The game is super simple to set up and play. Each session only takes about 45 minutes, which makes it perfect for nights when I don’t have a ton of energy but still want to roll some dice and tell a story.
I really enjoy how grim and tense it feels. Every choice matters, and one bad roll can end the whole run. It’s the kind of game where you can lose dramatically… and it still feels fun.
I lost my first game the other night when Lt. Abbott died disarming a bomb in Act 3. Mission failed. But I immediately wanted to play again.
I’m definitely planning to buy the other games from Themeborne (the company that makes it). They seem to have a few titles in this style, and I’m looking forward to checking them out.
Right now this game is filling a nice little niche for me; quick, replayable, and atmospheric. It’s a great way to scratch the solo RPG itch without needing hours of setup.
